1384098 Pyrrole compounds UPJOHN CO 11 July 1972 [29 July 1971] 18448/73 Divided out of 1384097 Heading C2C Novel pyrrole compounds of general formula wherein R is C 1-10 alkyl or haloalkyl, C 3-8 alkenyl or haloalkenyl, C 3-10 alkynyl, C 3-6 cycloalkyl, C 4-6 cycloalkenyl, C 4-12 alkyl- or halogen-substituted cycloalkyl, C 5-12 alkyl- or halogen-substituted cycloalkenyl, C 4-12 cycloalkyl- or cycloalkenyl-substituted lower alkyl, alkoxy-substituted lower alkyl having a total of 3-9 C atoms; R 1 is H, C 1-4 alkyl or haloalkyl; n is 0 or I; and R 2 is Me, Et, CF 3 , OMe or -NHMe, may be prepared either (i) by reacting an appropriate secondary amine with an appropriate 4 - substituted carbonyl - 3 - variable- 5 - methylpyrrole - 2 - carbonyl chloride or (ii) by reductive cyclization by hydrogenating in situ an α-oximino-alkanoacetamide of formula in the presence of methylacetoacetate, N-methyl acetoacetamide, or a substituted #-diketone of formula R 2 .CO.CH 2 .CO.CH 3 . The novel compounds exhibit herbicidal properties.
