Abstract:
1,260,574. Coatings. PENNSYLVANIA INDUSTRIAL CHEMICAL CORP. 16 Sept., 1969 [9 June, 1969], No. 45611/69. Heading B2E. [Also in Divisions C3, C4 and C5] Substrates such as fibreboard, corrugated board, paper, foils and films are melt coated with compositions comprising paraffin wax, an ethylene copolymer and an α-methyl styrene/vinyl toluene copolymer 95 per cent by weight of which has molecular chain lengths of less than 100 Angstroms, and which has a Ring and Ball softening point of 90 to 98‹C. The compositions may also comprise polyethylene, microcrystalline wax, antioxidants and slip agents. Specified ethylene copolymers are of ethylene with vinyl acetate, ethyl acrylate and isobutyl acrylate. Examples describe the melt coating of Kraft and glassine paper and folding cartons with compositions comprising paraffin wax, ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymers, α-methyl styrene/vinyl toluene copolymers and butylated hydroxy-toluene, optionally together with polyethylene, microcrystalline wax and erucamide.
