1419107 Bonded staple fibre bands PAVENA AG 8 Dec 1972 [22 Dec 1971] 56881/72 Headings D1F and D1R To form a draftable staple band, an excess of liquid containing an adhesive is introduced into a non-twisted arrangement of staple fibres, the excess liquid is squeezed off, the fibre arrangement is compacted to form a moist bond, the band is subjected to a stock like condensation of vapour onto the bond, and the band is dried by evaporating the liquid applied to the bond to set the adhesive and to form a stable band. The liquid may be introduced into the fibre arrangement at room temperature when band may be at the room temperature when subject to condenstion. The vapour is preferably maintained superheated at a temperature at least 20C above the boiling point of the liquid introduced into the fibre arrangement. The vapour may be produced by evaporation arid subsequent superheating of the liquid introduced into the bond. The moist band may be sprayed with liquid prior to the condensation. The time between application of the liquid and the condensation may be less than one second. The treatment of corded row cotton is exemplified.
