1384991 Triazoloazepines UPJOHN CO 4 Jan 1973 [24 Jan 1972 16 Nov 1972] 599/73 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds having the general formula wherein X is oxygen, sulphur, the group in which R 5 and R 6 are each hydrogen of C 1-3 alkyl, >N-R 1 in which R 1 is hydrogen, C 1-3 alkyl, in which n is 1-4 and R is C 1-3 alkyl, or R 1 is -CnH 2 nNR 7 R 8 or CH 2 C # CNR 7 R 8 in which R 7 and R 8 are each hydrogen or C 1-3 alkyl or together form a pyrrolidino or piperidino group; R 2 has the same meaning as R 1 ; and R 3 and R 4 are each hydrogen, halogen, amino, nitro, cyano, C 1-3 alkyl or trifluoromethyl, or alkoxy, alkylthio, alkyl sulphinyl, alkyl sulphonyl, alkanoylamino or dialkylamino in which the alkyl groups have 1-3 carbon atoms and acid addition salts thereof. They may be prepared by treating a compound of the formula with an alkyl carbazate of the formula where the alkyl group has 1 to 3 carbon atoms, to give a compound of the formula and treating II with R 2 Cl, R 2 Br or R 2 I as an alkylating agent in the presence of base. The compounds of the invention exhibit antidepressant activity and may be administered in admixture with conventional diluents or carriers either orally, parenterally or rectally.
