1359910 Tandem axle suspensions NORTH DERBYSHIRE ENG CO Ltd 15 March 1973 [16 March 1972] 12301/72 Heading B7D A trailer suspension comprises two cradles 1, 1A in each of which an axle 2 is mounted by rubber springs 12, the forward end of the leading cradle 1 and the rearward end of the trailing cradle 1A being pivotally attached to the trailer frame 3, and the adjacent ends of the cradles 1, 1A being interconnected by links 6, 6A, cranked levers 7, 7A and a connecting rod 11 to equalize the axle loading. The springs 12 are connected to each axle 2 through a box member 14 pivotally secured to the axle through a rubber bush 16. A triangular torque arm 17 connected between each axle and the frame 3 provides both longitudinal and lateral location. The axles may alternatively be mounted in the cradles by leaf springs. The trailer may have more than one pair of axles.
