Abstract:
1275212 Coating RHONE-POULENC SA 8 June 1970 [13 June 1969] 27689/70 Heading B2E [Also in Division C3] A composition, which can be used for coating paper, cardboard, textiles and plastics fibres and sheets purposes, comprises (a) 5-40% by wt of a polymer of monomers of which at least 65% by wt are vinyl esters of saturated branched aliphatic monocarboxylic acids, the carboxyl groups of which are attached to tertiary and/or quaternary carbon atoms, and (b) 60-95% by wt of a mixture of saturated straight chain aliphatic hydrocarbons containing 18 to 35 carbon atoms and having a melting point between 34 and 70‹C. Vinyl esters preferably used are those of C 9 _ 11 tertiary alpha carbon saturated aliphatic carboxylic acids and comonomers specified therefor are vinyl acetate, propionate, laurate, stearate and benzoate. The hydrocarbon mixture preferably used is a petroleum paraffin such as paraffin wax. Fillers, pigments and thermoplastic resins such as ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer, and reinforcing resins such as colophony esters, ptoluene sulphonamide/formaldehyde resin, phenol/formaldehyde resins, indene/coumarone copolymers, phenolic and terpene resins may also be present.
