Japanese Patent JPS4949409
Kind Code:
B1
Abstract:
1,144,425. Seaming non-metallic sheet material. IRONFLEX A.G. 4 Sept., 1967 [7 Sept., 1966; 26 Sept., 1966], No. 40368/67. Heading B5K. [Also in Divisions E1 and F2] A synthetic thermoplastic sheet 16 is attached to a supporting structure 2 by rigidly connecting a holding plate 6 to the structure 2, the plate 6 comprising at least a portion 19 of synthetic plastic material, extending the sheet 16 over the structure 2 and in contact with the portion 10, and locally heating the sheet 16 and the portion 10 to weld the sheet to the portion. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the structure 2 is a concrete roof portion of a flat top building and the sheet 16 insulates or seals the full extent of the roof surface. A number of plates 6 are each secured to the roof portion 2 by a nail or bolt 4 and each comprises an annular core 8, e.g. of brass, aluminium or an alloy thereof, having a polyvinyl chloride or polyethylene cover 10. The head 14 of the nail 4 retains the plate 6 on the roof 2. The sheet 16 is welded to the cover 10 by high frequency welding using an electrode unit 18 which comprises an annular welding electrode 20 and a complementary electrode 24 maintained in coaxial relation therewith by a bar 26 and an insulating sleeve 28. A recess 30 is formed in the electrode 24 to accommodate the head 14 and the bulge formed thereabove in the sheet 16 to facilitate the correct positioning of the unit 18 relative to the plate 6. During welding, the core 8 acts as an auxiliary electrode. In another embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), the core (108) of each holding plate (106) comprises a frusto-conically shaped metal annulus and the electrode unit has a correspondingly shaped configuration. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the holding plate is inverted so that its frusto-conical side is downwardly directed and embedded in a soft or resilient insulating layer (120). In a further embodiment, Fig. 6, a vertical surface 130 of a building is sealed by a sheet 148. The holding plate comprises a wedge shaped rail 132 secured to the surface 130 by screws 142 comprising a metallic core 136 surrounded by a thermoplastic cover 138. A slot formed between the surface 130 and a nose portion 134 of the rail 132 is filled by a sealing or leakproofing material 146. The sheet 148 is welded to the cover 138 at 152 using high frequency welding. Further holding rails may be provided intermediate the length and width of the sheet.
