Abstract:
2-Thiazolylbenzimidazole-1-carboxylic acid derivs. of formula (I) are new: (where X is O or S; R is 5-12C hydrocarbyl, e.g. opt. hydrocarbyl-substd., opt. unsatd. alkyl, cycloalkyl, bicycloalkyl, tricycloalkyl or aryl). Cpds. (I) are useful as fungicides (esp. agricultural fungicides and food preservatives), as antifungal medicaments, and as anthelmintics. Cpds. (I) can be prepd. by reacting 2-(4-thiazolyl)benzimidazole (II) or an alkali metal salt thereof with ClCOOR or ClCOSR (prepd. by reacting ROH or RSH with COCl2), opt. in the presence of a base.
