Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS50160335
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
Surfaces for underwater use are coated with wax, applied as an aq. wax dispersion, pref. contg. 15-75 (25-60) wt. % wax/wt. of dispersion and having viscosity 1.5-75 (2-50) degrees Engler at 20 degrees C. Final wax coating thickness is 5-500 (pref. 50-300) mu, allowing controlled migration of biocides from an opt. anti-fouling coating below wax coating. Migration is appreciable through wax coating thickness of 10-49 mu. Used for reducing surface-roughness and corrosion of ships and stationary or mobile underwater constructions, e.g. supports for off-shore drilling rigs or prodn. platforms. Aq. dispersions can be applied evenly to form smooth films; films thickness is easily adjusted; wax can be applied at ambient temps., with spray devices; biocides are easily worked in.
