Abstract:
1,229,353. Fastening to concrete. ILLINOIS TOOL WORKS Inc. 28 May, 1969 [3 July, 1968], No. 27038/69. Heading E1W. An insert 10 to be cast into concrete to define a recess in the concrete allowing a fastening element to driven into a wall of the insert comprises a channel 12 presenting a top wall 16 which in use receives the fastening element, and side walls 18 which extend from the wall 16 first normally and then in outwardly flared relationship to facilitate the introduction into the channel of an element 14 which causes the insert to float in liquid concrete and which is retained by means, such as tongues 24, in at least one side wall, the outwardly flared portions being spaced from the element 14 and having outwardly directed foot portions 20 to key the insert in the concrete. The flotation element 14 may be expanded plastics or may be a channel shaped member inverted with respect to the channel 12, Fig. 5 (not shown). The inserts may be in the form of short sections, or elongated strips.
