1463329 Vehicle steering systems SVENSKA KULLAGERFABRIKEN AB 25 Oct 1974 [2 Nov 1973] 46277/74 Headings B7H and B7V Steering apparatus, for a road vehicle or boat having two steerable wheels or rudders, including a steering member 1 fitted with step up gears 2 and connected via a flexible shaft 3 to an input of a 1 : 1 gear train 4, and flexible shafts 5, 6 extending from the gear train output to reduction gears 7, 8 which operate mechanisms 9 connected to the wheels or rudders. Each mechanism 9 includes a screw 19 rotatable with the reduction gearing and carrying a nut 20 which is axially movable. The nut carries a rod 18 which is connected to a link 22 associated with the steerable wheel or rudder. In another embodiment, Fig. 2, the nut 45 is provided with an external transverse groove which receives a peg on the link 46 connected to the wheel or rudder. The link is rotationally fast with a shaft 31 of substantially triangular section (Fig. 3, not shown) which is slidably received in a triangular bore in member 39 fixed to a housing 32 which is mounted on the steering knuckle 30. Shaft 31 carries a piston head 33 slidable in cylinder 34, this assembly together with a spring 35 acting as a shock absorber.
