Abstract:
1450830 Triaryl phosphines; phosphonium salt F HOFFMANN-LA ROCHE & CO AG 13 Dec 1974 [14 Dec 1973] 53966/74 Heading C2P A triaryl phosphine in which the aryl groups, which may be the same or different, are C 6-16 aromatic hydrocarbon groups, is prepared by reacting under pressure the corresponding triaryl phosphine oxide with hydrogen in the presence of a silicon tetrahalide and in the presence of elemental sulphur or selenium or a sulphur or selenium atom donor. The sulphur or selenium atom donor may be a triaryl phosphine sulphide or selenide, an inorganic sulphide or selenide, a mercaptan or selenol or an organic sulphide, episulphide or selenide. The sulphur or selenium or donor thereof may be incorporated into a metal catalyst, such as palladium on a carbon support. In an example, a beta-ionylidene ethyl triphenyl phosphonium salt is prepared by reacting triphenyl phosphine, prepared as above, with vinyl-beta-ionol.
