Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5090610
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
1486297 V 2 O 4 -containing films PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 29 Nov 1974 [4 Dec 1973] 51802/74 Heading C1M A V 2 O 4 -containing film is formed on a ceramic substrate by:- (a) mixing V 2 O 5 with a vitreous matrix material to form a mixture containing 20-30 mol per cent of V 2 O 5 ; (b) heating for at least 30 minutes at 1300-1400‹ C to convert V 2 O 5 to V 2 O 4 and form a glass-ceramic binder; (c) pulverizing the binder to an average particle size of approx. 5 Á; (d) mixing the binder particles with V 2 O 4 particles of average particle size approx. 5 Á and a volatile solvent to form a dispersion, the weight ratio of V 2 O 4 to glassceramic binder being from 45 : 55 to 65 : 35; (e) covering a ceramic substrate with the dispersion; (f) drying the coated substrate at 80-140‹C; and (g) firing in an inert atmosphere (e.g. Ar or N 2 ) at 680-780‹ C. The substrate may be alumina or beryllia, and the coating may be, e.g. 25 Á thick. The dispersion may optionally include 1-5% by weight of a further inorganic binder (e.g. SiO 2 ) and/or 15-25% by weight of an organic binder (e.g. polybutylene). The vitreous matrix material may consist of (in mole percent) 15-20% CaO, 65-70% B 2 O 3 and 10-15% Al 2 O 3 , or of 35-40% B 2 O 3 , 5-10% SiO 2 , 5-10% Li 2 O and 40-50% ZnO (provided that V 2 O 4 + ZnO in the binder is 40-50%).
