Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
1475080 Seaming KONINKLIJKE EMBALLAGE INDUSTRIE VAN LEER BV 17 Dec 1974 [17 Dec 1973] 58410/73 Heading B5K [Also in Divisions B3 and B8] A flexible impermeable package comprises two plies of or including a pore free metal foil, coated along at least the edge areas with a solder, the edge areas being sealed together by local application of heat and pressure to effect a metal seal. These may be a plastics seal on the inside and/or outside of the metal seal by the facing surfaces of the layers also being coated with a heat sealable thermoplastics material. Copper, aluminium, or tin plated steel foils may be used. The solder may be tin, tin-lead, indium or indium tin and may be applied by electroplating or tinning. The heat sealable material may be a vinyl lacquer. The metal foil may be laminated to an outer polyester film. The seal(s) is/are made by compressing the surfaces between two narrow tapes of resistance wire, the pressure being maintained after termination of the heating till the joint(s) have solidified. A dessicant strip of filter paper saturated with cobaltous chloride may be applied to the foil and be enclosed within plastics seals of the package. In test examples packages were formed by sealing two foils together along their periphery, cutting the sealed foils in half to form two sachets, inserting helium or a water indicator in to the sachets and sealing the sachets.
