Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5111510
Kind Code:
B1
Abstract:
1,252,990. Accelerometers. UNITED CONTROL CORP. April 3, 1969 [April 12, 1968], No.17549/69. Heading G1K. An accelerometer sensitive to linear acceleration along an axis OY comprises a pendulum 10 pivoted for rotation about an axis OX (perpendicular to OY) and shaped in such a manner that its centres of percussion P and "Spin insensitivity" S (with reference to the axis OX) substantially coincide. Such an accelerometer can be used on a vehicular body 14 to sense linear acceleration parallel to a selected axis OY thereof by (i) arranging the pendulum 10 with its axis or rotation OX perpendicular to the selected axis OY and with its axis of extension OZ passing through the centre of gravity Q of the body 14 and by (ii) so shaping the pendulum that P and S substantially coincide with Q. Provided the difference between the distances OS and OP is less than two per cent of one of them, errors due to angular velocity and/or angular acceleration with components along the selected axis, which appear when S and/or P do not coincide with Q, are negligible. Suitable arrangements include (a) A slender rod pendulum, Fig. 2 (not shown) of length L and diameter L/10 pivoted a distance L/10 from its centre of gravity, (b) a thin circular disc pendulum, Fig. 3 (not shown) centrally pivoted with its centre of gravity slightly off centre.
