Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5118394
Kind Code:
B1
Abstract:
1,260,546. Evaporators, film-type; recovery of solvents from polymeric material; removal of residues from apparatus. ARTISAN INDUSTRIES Inc. 13 June, 1969 [14 June, 1968; 29 May, 1969], No. 30232/69. Headings B1B and B1X. Volatile liquid is evaporated from a viscous material, such as a mixture of polyvinyl chloride and tetrahydrofurane, by feeding the material through inlet 16 into chamber 12 where rotor blades 30 distribute the material and move it axially, in the form of a film, on the heated cylindrical inner wall of the chamber, and withdrawing the treated material through conduit 18 by means of conveyor 32 (e.g. an Archimedian screw) and pump 34. As shown, pump 34 comprises rotor 36 and stator 37; and the pump may be driven by the same, or a different, device as that used to operate conveyor 32. Another type of pump may be used instead of a screw pump, e.g. a piston-, radial-, or gear-pump. The vapours flow out of chamber 12 through outlet 20. The chamber is heated by passing heating-medium through jacket 14. Conduit 18 is also surrounded by a heating-jacket 39. Fig. 5 (not shown) depicts a film-evaporator wherein the rotor blades terminate before the outlet conduit 18 is reached, and the shaft of the rotor is provided with a vertical plate above the outlet conduit, so that the treated material builds up behind the plate and is scooped into the oulet conduit. A reaction vessel containing resinous material, e.g. polyvinyl chloride, accumulated from prior processing operations, may be cleaned out by introducing solvent into the vessel, and removing the resultant solution from the walls of the vessel.. The solution is then introduced into the film-evaporator for recovery of solvent.
