1483225 Nozzles W R GRACE & CO 29 Aug 1975 [9 Sept 1974] 39204/74 Heading B2F A nozzle for dispensing polymer compositions, for example for dispensing small amounts of cold polyurethane foams in the manufacture of annular gaskets in container crown closures, comprises a nozzle body constructed in three sections 1, 2 and 3 and having a bnduit 10 through which the material to be dispensed passes, an elastic tube 4 lining said conduit and a passage 11 connected to a source of pressurised fluid and communicating with a recess 12 around the tube such that when fluid is admitted into the recess the walls of the elastic tube are forced inwardly thereby forming a seal. The tube is surrounded 'by a perforated cage 9 which prevents the walls of the tube from being distended outwardly when material passes through the nozzle. The tube 4 may be made of natural or synthetic rubber such as nitrile rubber. The quantity of polymer composition delivered in each dispensing cycle can be controlled by varying the interval between release of the elastic tube from an initially inwardly deformed condition and the next instant of inward deformation at the end of the dispensing cycle. The seal formed by the elastic tube prevents material from dribbling from the nozzle between dispensing cycles.
