Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5324021
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
1431456 Punching COMALCO (J & S) PTY Ltd 6 July 1973 [17 July 1972] 32397/73 Heading B3W Longitudinal slots are formed in strip 33 having a constant cross-section by driving it between a series of coaxial roller cutters 36 acting against a back up roller 35 or a ridged table (96), Fig. 11, not shown, each roller cutter having at least one radial projection 46 extending around part but not all of its circumference, the projections shearing strips from the strip. The strip is fed to the cutters by engagement of one of a series of dogs 32 on a chain 31 with the rear edge of the strip. The chain runs between coaxial rollers 28, is adjustable in height by means of a jack 23 and is driven by a sprocket 99. If the table (96) is used, i.e. when thin strip is being slotted, it allows the chain feed to be dispensed with, the sprocket 99 engaging a chain 98 on the underside of the table. An output roller table 22, vertically adjustable by means of a jack 23 is associated with a holddown 37, vertically adjustable by means of an air cylinder. The replaceable roller cutter assembly, as shown in Fig. 5, three cutters 36 with spacers (49) and strippers (50) between them and clamped on a motor-driven shaft (42), is vertically adjustable by means of a screw 73. The back up roller 35 comprises a pack of annular members 75 clamped on a motor-driven shaft 76, and is adjustable in the feed direction by means of a screw 72. The chain 31, or table 96, is driven at the same or slightly greater than the lineal speed of the rollers 36 in the cutting zone. The ends of the radial projections 46 have curved radial faces (67), Fig. 7, not shown. The side faces of the projections are cut away to give cutting clearances (68), Fig. 8, not shown, and the periphery of the projection is knurled. The slotting apparatus and method are particularly applicable to flanged metal sections, particularly with longitudinal beads 51, Fig. 9, the flanges being drawn apart after the slotting to form a truso or mesh panel.
