Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5330751
Kind Code:
B1
Abstract:
1,222,982. Laminating apparatus; stacked plastics sheets joined at edges. DOW CHEMICAL CO. 4 April, 1968 [6 April, 1967], No. 16174/68. Headings B5K and B5N. Apparatus for connecting a stack of superposed horizontal, non-planar sheets of synthetic resin at the four vertical faces of the stack, which vertical faces have openings therein due to the non-planar form of the sheets, comprises means for aligning the edges of the sheets to form the vertical faces, first and second heating means adapted to engage opposed vertical faces and fuse the sheets together without closing the openings in these faces, means for disengaging the heating means from the stack, means for rotating the stack through 90 degrees about a vertical axis and means for engaging and fusing the sheets together at the other two vertical faces. The sheets may be corrugated. The finished stacks are for use in the treatment of waste water or other liquid, the liquid being run over surfaces defined within the stack and thus contacted by air. As shown, the apparatus includes a conveyer 53 for moving a stack (not shown) of unconnected sheets, which have been arranged against an upright 78, to a space within a frame 42, 43. Four members 125 (only one clearly shown) are swung into contact with the vertical faces of the stack to align the sheets. A holding disc 196 is then urged downwardly on to the top of the stack to maintain this alignment. Two heated platens 80 and 84, the operative surfaces of which are covered by heat-resistant curtains 149, are moved into contact with two opposed vertical faces of the stack to effect the fusing together. The platens are then withdrawn and each curtain 149 is stripped from the stack by two co-operating rolls, Fig. 3 (not shown). Cooling air is directed on to the sealed faces by means (not shown). The stack is then moved by shoes 68 and 69 on to a turntable 199, where it is rotated through 90 degrees before being moved into a space enclosed by a second frame 198. Frame 198 supports apparatus, similar to that supported by frame 42, 43, for fusing the sheets together at the other two vertical faces of the stack.
