1448925 Printing machines HEIDELBERGER DRUCKMASCHINEN AG 7 Aug 1974 [9 Aug 1973 31 Oct 1973] 34792/74 Heading B6C A multi-colour rotary printing press has printing units 1-4, the the units being driven by a gear train 23 comprising gear wheels attached to cylinders 7-20 all in mesh, drive to this gear train being supplied at at least two points from a drive train from respective drive elements, e.g. 33, 34 thereof, the drive elements being capable of movement in a direction along the gear train, and being so interconnected that movement of one such element produces a compensating movement in the next such element. As shown, drive shaft 27 has a slidable coupling 28, and the two parts are accommodated in bearings 35, 37 interconnected by hydraulic line 39. Means 40 may be provided to allow automatic or manual adjustment of the compensating movement. In another embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown), a unitary drive shaft drives two separate shafts with freedom of movement along the gear chain. In the embodiment of Fig. 3 (not shown), a unitary drive shaft is slidably mounted and acted upon by a spring.
