Abstract:
1444220 Making helically finned tubes BALCKE-DURR AG 25 Feb 1974 [17 March 1973] 8402/74 Headings B3E and B3A A strip 2 having a flange 2a bent up by more than a right angle is wound on edge under tension into a rotated tube 1 and the flange is subsequently re-bent to approximately a right angle. The strip is spaced on and pressed against the tube by guides 7 on arms 6 pivoted at 5 and urged against the tube by compressed air piston and cylinder devices 8. Each guide, Fig. 2, comprises a shoe 10 resting on the tube and blades 11, 12 of which blade 11 has its end bevelled. A roller 9 on shoe 10 guides the strip as it contacts the tube, its axis being inclined to the normal to the direction of strip feed as in Fig. 1 so as to tension the strip and provide a lateral component of force on it. The strip is flanged in a roller device 3. The wound tube may be hot galvanized, the coating metal penetrating by capillary action into the gap between strip and tube.
