Abstract:
1409181 Flocculating; kaolin LUBRIZOL CORP 10 Sept 1973 [22 Sept 1972] 42521/73 Heading C1A [Also in Divisions C2 and C3] Substances are flocculated from their aqueous suspensions by adding either (a) a compound of formula wherein each of R1 , R2 , R3 , R4 and R5 is a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon or substituted hydrocarbon radical and each R6 is a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon or substituted hydrocarbon radical or the two R6 radicals together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached from a heterocyclic radical or (b) polymers of the above compounds in which R1 is a lower alkenyl group. Thus kaolin may be flocculated from aqueous suspension by adding (1) alum and poly(2-acrylimidoamino-2-methylpropanesulphonic acid) or (2) ferric chloride and a copolymer of 2-acrylimidoamino-2-methylpropanesulphonic acid and acrylamide.
