Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5343218
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
1470787 Joining yarns C P ISERN 18 Jan 1974 [19 Jan 1973] 02554/74 Heading D1W Two similar staple fibre yarns or rovings are joined by gripping each of the yarns at two spaced apart locations so as to define a yarn length therebetween, generally equal to the fibre length; twisting each length to untwist fibres therein from each other; moving apart the two locations of each yarn so as to break the lengths and thereby provide each yarn with an end having fibres which are untwisted from each other; separating or opening (as by electrostatic repulsion) the fibres of a first one of these ends; inserting the other of the ends into the separated fibres of the first end; separating from each other the fibres of the inserted end so that the fibres of the two ends cross and interlace and finally imparting an axial twisting motion to at least one of the ends so as to twist the fibres of the two ends together to complete the join (which should be of the same structure and physical properties as the yarns). In the operation of the apparatus shown, a yarn is placed in a slotted conical member 11 of a guide 8 and held by three grippers 13, 14 and 17 and 20; flywheel 18 is rotated to untwist the length of yarn between it and gripper 13, 14 and gripper 17 is then retracted from gripper 13, 14, thereby breaking the length of untwisted yarn to form a beard 4. A second yarn is positioned in guide 9 and held by three grippers 15, 16 and 21; guide flywheel 19 is rotated to untwist the length of yarn between grippers 15 and 16 (also to impart extra twist to the length between groups 15 and 21) and gripper 16 is then retracted from gripper 15 to break the yarn and leave a beard 4 in a slotted nozzle 10. A comb (not shown) may be moved along the slots of both guides to render the beard fibres parallel. The untwisted fibres 5 in member 11 becomes electrostatically charged which induces their separation and attraction to member 11 and a charged ring 12 so as to form a "mouth" into which the fibres of the other bearded end are inserted as the guide 8 (including member 11) is then moved so that nozzle 10 with fibres protruding from it is inserted into member 11. The inserted fibres also become electrostatically charged and open so that the fibres of both ends cross and interlace. Gripper 15 is released so that the extra twist runs through the untwisted ends and twists them to form the joint: further twist may be added to the joint zone by rotation of gripper 20 after release of gripper 13, 14.
