Japanese Patent JPS5550931
Kind Code:
B1
Abstract:
1309872 Methanol synthesis METALLGESELLSCHATT AG 7 May 1971 [19 May 1970] 13842/71 Heading C2C A methanol synthesis wherein a sulphur containing high boiling hydrocarbon is partially oxidized with O 2 and H 2 O at a pressure at least 5 kg./cm.2 higher than that used in the methanol synthesis and the resulting crude gas is desulphurized, a partial stream of said desulphurized gas is treated with water vapour to convert part of the CO therein to CO 2 +H 2 , and thereafter all of the gas is scrubbed to remove at least part of the CO 2 and reacted at 230-280‹ C. at 30-80 kg./cm.2 absolute in the presence of a copper containing catalyst which is indirectly cooled with water under pressure, the high pressure steam so formed being used to produce the energy required to compress the gases to be compressed in the process.
