Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5629330
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
1475458 Mercury vapour lamps PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 18 March 1975 [21 March 1974 12 Feb 1975] 11194/75 Heading H1D A capsule for introducing mercury into a mercury discharge lamp (high or low pressure) is made of metal and is of such a shape that it does not obstruct the exhaust tube of the lamp. After the lamp has been pumped, the capsule is ruptured by application of heat e.g. by heating wire, by induction heating or by radiation, and metallic mercury contained in the capsule is released into the lamp. The exhaust tube may be sealed before or after rupture of the capsule. The capsule is of predominantly planar form; e.g. it may consist of an iron plate 14, Fig. 5, and a nickel or iron plate 15, the former being proprovided with a depression 16 for containing a quantity of mercury 17. The plates are sealed together, e.g. by welding, around the depression 16. A number of such capsules may be produced in the form of a continuous ribbon from which individual capsules may be cut. The capsule is arranged on a diameter of the exhaust tube and may be located between a pair of axially spaced circumferential ridges inside the tube. Alternatively, the capsule may be held against the internal wall of the tube by a length of wire extending along the tube from the pinch of the lamp. In the form shown in Figs. 9, 10 the capsule comprises a bulbous part 26 containing mercury and a planar part 24.
