Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5743112
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
1481247 Loss-of-dry inhibitors for oxidizable paints TENNECO CHEMICALS Inc 31 Dec 1974 [21 Jan 1974] 56180/74 Heading C3R A loss-of-dry inhibitor for incorporation in a surface-coating composition containing an oxidizable organic vehicle comprises a solution of a mixture of metal salts in an inert organic solvent and contains 0À05 to 1À5 wt. per cent Co, 0À5 to 3À5 wt. per cent Ca and 0À5 to 5À0 wt. per cent Zn and/or Zr present as salts of C 6-14 branched chain aliphatic and/or C 6-10 cycloaliphatic monocarboxylic acids. The surface coating composition may contain 2 to 5% of the solution based on the organic vehicle which may be an alkyd resin, a drying or semi-drying oil, or an oleoresinous varnish which is a reaction product of such an oil with rosin, a modified rosin or a phenolic resin. The solvent is preferably a hydrocarbon or halogenated hydrocarbon. The coating composition may be a paint, varnish enamel or printing ink and may contain conventional ingredients, e.g. metal salt driers, pigments, extenders, solvents, plasticizers and anti-skinning agents. In all the specific examples the oxidizable vehicles are soybean or linseed oil modified alkyds; the salts are 2-ethylhexanoic, isononanoic and/or naphthenic acid; and the solvent is mineral spirits containing about 6% tripropylene glycol.
