PURPOSE: To selectively adjust a separating effect of a sheet in a paper feeder in which the sheet is separately fed by a paper feed roll adapted to the bottom face of the sheet, by providing a sheet guide member changeable with a height position in the vicinity of a peripheral surface of the paper feed roll.

CONSTITUTION: A paper feeder 2 used in a facsimile device or the like separately feeds sheets S stacked on a sheet mounting bed 3 to a direction (a) sheet by sheet from the lowermost sheet and is equipped with a paper feed roll 20 protruded in a front descending sloped part in the point end of the bed 3. Here a sheet guide member 25 is arranged in the vicinity of a peripheal surface of the roll 20. This member 25 is provided with a comb tooth part 26 situated mutually between protruding parts 24 of the roll 20 in a free end of the member 25 and mounted by pivotally supporting a root end edge 27 by a supporting shaft 30 in the bottom part of the bed 3. Then the member 25 is formed to selectively enable the displacement to the first position and the second position closely attached to the bed 3 as shown in the drawing by cooperatively moving a cam 32 and cam follower 31.
