Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a polypropylene sheet exhibiting an improved sagging phenomenon during thermoforming, by blending a bismaleimide compd. in a specified weight ratio with polypropylene resin contg. no org. peroxide, and melt- extruding the resin compsn.

CONSTITUTION: 0.05W3pts.wt. bismaleimide of the formula is added to 100pts.wt. polypropylene resin which does not contain any materials which lower the MW of the polypropylene resin such as an org. peroxide, in high-temperature treating stages. A pref. example of said bismaleimide is N,N'-(methylene-di-p-phenylene) bismaleimide. The resulting resin compsn. is melt-extruded into a sheet to obtain the desired polypropylene sheet. When molded by a thermoforming process such as vacuum forming or pressure forming, the sheet little suffers sagging. Thus, the product is not wrinkled.
