PURPOSE: To recover methane efficiently from the refuse, paper, etc. of waste by fermenting the slurrt prepd. by disintegrating solid waste, subjecting the same to settling, and separating and decomposing the intermediate layers contg. cellulose anaerobically.
CONSTITUTION: After magnetic metals 4 are removed from waste such as municipal waste or the like, the waste is disintegrated with a disintegrator 5. The disintegrated waste is charged into a fractionating tank 10, where cellulase 6 and water 8 are supplied thereto. In this state, the sludge is fermented under the conditions of enzyme concn. 1×103W10×105 disintegrating activity for filter paper/ kg cellulose, 18W°C reaction temp. and 10minW6hr reaction time. The slurry is subjected to settling and separating to float up lightweight plastics, wooden pieces, etc. and to settle nonmagnetic metals, glass, etc. The suspended slurry of paper, converted to short fibers refuse particles, etc. in intermediate layers 12 is transferred into a settling and separating tank 14, where the slurry is subjected to sepn. Pulp layers 16 are charged together with part of the water in a water tank 15 into an anaerobic digesting tank 20, where said layers are subjected to a methane fermentation treatment. Thus, cellulose, etc. are decomposed to methane and CO2.
