Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:5-Fluoro-1-(2-trifluoromethylpropionyl)uracil of formula.
USE: It has antitumor activity, and is useful as a carcinostatic agent or its intermediate.
PROCESS: The compound of formula can be prepared, e.g. by adding the acid chloride of the corresponding trifluoromethylpropionic acid to the solution of 5-fluorouracil in a basic solvent, and reacting the components with each other. The basic solvent is, e.g. pyridine, triethylamine, etc. The reaction is carried out usually at room temperature, however, when the reaction is too vigorous, it is carried out at a low temperature, e.g. about -20°C. In some cases, the reaction system is heated at 50°C to complete the reaction.
