PURPOSE: To provide titled electrode for an aluminum base material which has excellent durability and can increase a dressing interval, by providing a diffusion layer of aluminum or an aluminum alloy to the forward end of a base material for an electrode made of copper or copper alloy.
CONSTITUTION: A base material of an electrode for welding obtained by forming the same of pure copper or a copper alloy of Cr-Cu, Zr-Cr-Cu or the like and fixed to the chuck of a lathe, and while the material is rotated, aluminum or an aluminum alloy is pressed to the forward end thereof to form a coating layer. The base material is heat treated for about 0.5W3hr at about 250W500°C, more preferably for about 1W2hr at about 350W450°C in a vacuum or non-oxidative gas to form a diffusion layer of aluminum or aluminum alloy at the forward end of the electrode, whereby the electrode for resistance spot welding of an aluminum base material which has excellent durability, prevents pickup of the base material and the electrode with each other, and has a long dressing interval is obtained.
