PURPOSE: To obtain the titled stable compsn. free from change due to sedimentation, by agglomerating a fine coal powder by agitation in the presence of a binder in water and mixing the agglomerate with an alcohol in the presence of a polyether surfactant with agitation.
CONSTITUTION: Coal pulverized into a fine powder with a particle size of about 0.2W0.5mm is agitated in the presence of a binder such as tar or starch in water to be agglomerated. Then the target fine coal powder/alcohol compsn. is obtd. by separating the agglomerate from the water and mixing it with an alcohol such as methanol or ethanol in the presence of a polyether surfactant at about 50W200°C with agitation. The polyether surfactant includes, e.g., a copolymer of polypropylene glycol, and polyethylene glycol, and a triethanolamine/propylene oxide adduct, and is adequately used in an amt. of 0.02W0.3wt%.
