PURPOSE: To facilitate position setting conttol between a tape and a head, by setting a miniature microphone at a place at the vicinity of the part to be controlled to ovserve abnormal sounds produced under traveling of the tape.

CONSTITUTION: A tape 3 is drawn out of a feed reel 2 attached to a tape recorder 1 and then taken up to a take-up reel 2' after passing through a guide pin 5 in contact with a head 4. A miniature microphone 6 is provided at the vicinity of the head 4, and a signal waveform produced under traveling of the tape is observed and evaluated by a waveform observing device 7 such as an oscilloscope, etc. A fine adjustment is carried out by detecting the abnormal sounds of the device 7 and while moving the controlling areas of the head 4 and the pin 5 to minimize those abnormal sounds.
