PURPOSE: To prevent miscopying due to missetting of a contraction rate, by illustrating the corresponding size relation between a selected paper sheet and a contracted original in accordance with an original size signal, a selected paper size signal, and the contraction rate.

CONSTITUTION: An operator inserts an original into an original insertion opening, selects a copy paper sheet, and adjusts a dial 1. At that time, a contraction signal, a paper size signal, and an original signal are operated in a CPU, and a paper size illustration 9a and a contracted original size illustration 9b are displayed on a display part 9 to indicate their corresponding size relation. When this relation is made appropriate by the adjustment of the operator, the contraction control ends, and a copy having an appropriate contraction rate can be obtained by turning on a start switch 4, thus preventing miscopying due to missetting of a contraction rate, and saving the operator the trouble of forming a test copy.
