Abstract:
PURPOSE:To keep intergranular cracking from being caused by segregation and prevent hard metal contact, by providing a babbitt layer which slides relative to a rotary shaft and whose thickness at the part to which the load of the rotary shaft acts is made larger than that at the other part to uniformly cool the babbitt layer as a whole. CONSTITUTION:White metal is cast to provide a babbitt layer 3a whose thickness at the part which receives the load of a rotary shaft is made larger than that at the other part. The babbitt layer 3a is placed on the inside surface of a backup metal 2a and cooling holes 6 are provided through the backup metal near the babbitt layer in the axial direction of the backup metal so that a cylinderical bearing is constructed. When the white metal is cast, cooling water is caused to flow through the cooling holes 6 to uniformly cool the cast part of larger thickness. To form the babbitt layer 3a with the part of larger thickness, the inside surface of the backup metal 2a is shaped as a bowl or the like.
