Title:
BRASS HAVING BETA STRUCTURE EXCELLENT IN COLD PROCESSABILITY
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5881943
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain brass having β structure and excellent in cold processability, by making the brass from the specified composition of copper, boron and zinc.

CONSTITUTION: A brass comprising 50W62.5wt% copper, 0.001W2% boron and the balance zinc has β structure and exhibits cold processability equal to that of brass which is the easiest to work without the appearance of the β sturcture. As the reasons for defining said composition, copper and zinc are in the defined ranges required for making the brass having the β structure, and boron out of said range makes the brass have poor elongation, high tensile strength and hardness and poor processability. Since boron is added in the form of Fe2B, the addition of boron exceeding 2% entails the inclusion of Fe above 10% causing the noxious influence of the iron component. In this regard, its upper limit is made at 2%.
