Title:
NOISELESS DISCHARGE DEVICE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5899271
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To permit an inverter to operate at higher frequencies, by prolonging the time of application of inverse voltage to the SCR of a power inverter, through maintaining the voltage between electrodes at a level smaller than the peak value. CONSTITUTION:An electric discharge device is started by a combination of a method in which the frequency is varied and a method in which the current is varied, in a manner explained below. Assume here that the frequency and voltage in the steady operating condition are f0 and Vp0. The current is gradually increased at a constant frequency lower than f0, and the voltage is raised to Vp0 while maintaining such a state that the reverse voltage time tr is greater than the time length toff for recovering the ability to check forward voltage even when the peak voltage Vp, which is equal to the discharge voltage Vb, is reached. Then, the frequency f is increased to f0 while maintaining the voltage Vp0 at a constant level, so that the steady operation of the discharge device is commenced. The change of the voltage Vp0 can be effected by varying the pressure in the gap. It is possible to use an inverter at higher frequency range, by attaining a matching between the discharging condition of the discharging electrode and the operating condition of the inverter.
