Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS6345943
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
The material may be used in the production of printed circuit boards, and comprises an extruded sheet of a thermoplastic polymer, preferably poly(1,4-butylene terephthalate), containing from about 5 to 60% by weight of reinforcing filler material such as glass fibers, and having a polymer-rich surface, a gloss value of at least 15, and a maximum roughness of about 150 microinches. The material is made by extruding a filled thermoplastic polymer into a continuous laminar melt stream from an extruder (1) and then conveying the laminar melt stream to and through a pressure roll system (11, 12, 13) having hot, highly polished surfaces, which contact the melt stream under temperature and pressure conditions sufficient to cause the filler material to retreat from the surface of the melt stream and to produce a sheet material having a smooth, glossy, polymeric surface thereon. The melt stream is delivered from the extrusion screw to the extrusion die (5), through parts of a breaker plate which gradually converge and change the polymer flow from a corkscrew pattern, to an oriented laminar flow in which the filler material is aligned.
