Abstract:
[Problem] To provide a novel copolymer which enables the achievement of a coating material that has excellent rust prevention effect. [Solution] A copolymer wherein: the molar ratio of a monomer (A) of formula (1) is from 1 to 99% by mole; the molar ratio of a (meth)acrylic acid alkyl ester (B) having from 1 to 22 carbon atoms is from 1 to 99% by mole; the molar ratio of another copolymerizable monomer (C) is from 0 to 98% by mole; and the weight average molecular weight is from 3,000 to 1,000,000. (In the formula, R represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; and X represents an alkylene group having from 2 to 5 carbon atoms or an alkylene group having one hydroxy group and from 2 to 5 carbon atoms.)
