A spacer for planar panel display; a process for producing the same; and a planar panel display. When the degrees of expansion are much different between the spacer for planar panel display and the face plate and back plate, straining of planar panel display, nonalignment and inclination of spacer, etc. are likely to occur to result in deflection of emitted electrons. These are prevented by the use of a product of sintering of composite ceramic composed of, mixed together in specified ratio, Al₂O₃ (alumina), TiC (titanium carbide), MgO (magnesium oxide) and TiO₂ (titanium dioxide). There is provided a spacer for planar panel display comprised of a sintering product containing Al₂O₃, TiC, MgO and TiO₂ which sintering product contains MgO in an amount of 35 to 55 wt.% based on the total weight of Al₂O₃, TiC, MgO and TiO₂.
