A ceramic honeycomb structure having many channels formed with porous partitions. The ceramic honeycomb structure is characterized in that the porous partitions have a porosity of 45-68% and have pores which have an average pore diameter of 15-35 µm and in which the volume of pores having a pore diameter exceeding 50 µm is 10-25%, excluding 10%, of the total pore volume, the volume of pores having a pore diameter not smaller than 100 µm is 1-8% of the total pore volume, the volume of pores having a pore diameter smaller than 10 µm is 3-10% of the total pore volume, and the pore distribution deviation (σ) is not higher than 0.45 [provided that σ=log(D20)-log(D80); in a curve showing the relationship between pore diameter and cumulative pore volume (cumulative volume of pores ranging from pores with a maximum pore diameter to pores with a specific pore diameter), the D20 indicates the pore diameter (µm) as measured at the pore volume corresponding to 20% of the total pore volume and the D80 likewise indicates the pore diameter (µm) as measured at the pore volume corresponding to 80% of the total pore volume.
