Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:A hydantoin derivative of formula I (X is halogen R1 is 5- or 6-membered ring having one O or S; R2 and R3 are H or lower alkyl groups).
EXAMPLE: 1-(3-Furoyl)-3-(3,5-dichlorophenyl) hydantoin.
USE: Agricultural and horticultural fungicides having improved antifungal activity against a wide variety of plant pathogenic fungi, and the same antifungal activity against drug-resistant fungi as against wild ones.
PROCESS: A compound of formula II is reacted with a carboxylic acid of formula III or its reactive derivative in a solvent, e.g. THF, in the presence of a suitable dehydrating or dehydrochlorinating agent if necessary, to give the compound of formula I.
