To resolve the problem of linear search that requires long processing time to collate a large amount of registered data with collation data, thereby causing errors in comparison of attribute information.
A plurality of features are prepared, and a feature quantity table comprising feature quantities calculated for all pairs of registered data and the features is generated in advance. A feature quantity of collation data is calculated, and the registered data to be next collated is controlled in accordance with the calculated feature quantity and the feature quantity table, and a degree of matching between the registered data and the collation data is calculated and is compared with a threshold to determine correlation between the registered data and the collation data. Furthermore, reference data and a correlation table may be used in place of the feature quantity table.
