Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:1,1,1,7,7,7-Hexamethylolheptane.
USE: A raw material for alkyd resins, polyurethane resins, lubricating oils, plasticizers, surfactants, hard coating agents, bases for acrylates, inks, printing form plates, coatings, adhesives, textile processing agents and cosmetics, etc.
PREPARATION: 1,9-Nonanedial is reacted with formaldehyde in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide or alkaline earth metal hydroxide at ca.5 - 70°C into the objective 1,1,1,7,7,7-hexamethylolheptane. It is preferable that the molar ratios, based on the 1,9-nonanedial, be (6 : 1) - (20 : 1) and (2 : 1) - (3 : 1) for the formaldehyde and the metal hydroxide, respectively.
