NEW MATERIAL:The 1,2,3-triazole-1-oxide derivative of formula I (R is lower alkyl; X is H or F).
EXAMPLE: 2-[ 4-Chloro-8-(isopropoxycarbonyl)phenyl ]-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-1,2,3-ben zotriazole-1-oxide.
USE: Useful as a selective herbicide. It has excellent herbicidal activity against various harmful weeds by soil treatment or foliar treatment in plowed land or flooding treatment in paddy field and exhibits excellent selectivity between weeds and main crops such as corn, wheat or rice. There is no phytotoxicity to the main crops.
PREPARATION: The compound of formula I can be produced by oxidizing an oxime derivative of formula II in the presence of an oxidizing agent at 0W100°C. The reaction is preferably carried out by using an aqueous solution of copper (II) sulfate as the oxidizing agent in the presence of pyridine. The amount of the oxidizing agent is 1W1.5 equivalent based on 1 equivalent of the com pound of formula II.
