PURPOSE: To obtain a new electron-donating compound developing yellow color, capable of giving recording materials excellent in ground whiteness, ground preservability, developed color tone, color-developing sensitivity, developed color deepness, and developed color image preservability, etc.

CONSTITUTION: The objective compound, 1,3,4-trimethyl-6-cyclohexylaminofluoran expressed by formula I is obtained by reaction of a phenol derivative of formula II (R is H or a lower alkyl) with a benzophenone derivative of formula III in the presence of a dehydrating condensation agent such as sulfuric acid at 0-100°C for several tenth hours followed by treatment with an alkali such as sodium hydroxide at 0-100 (pref. 50-100) °C pref. under such conditions as to be reach the pH of the liquor reach 9 after treated. This reaction is pref. conducted at 30-80°C for 2-20h when 90% sulfuric acid is used as the dehydrating condensation agent.
