Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:18-Cyano-18-hydro-16-membered macrolide antibiotic dervatives of the formula (R1 is H, acetyl, propionyl, butyryl, isovaleryl) and their salts.
EXAMPLE: 18-Cyano-18-hydroleucomycin A5.
USE: Antibiotics, they are stronger in antibiotic activity than known 16-membered macrolide antibiotics with keeping low toxicity of the same extent of conventional macrolides.
PREPARATION: The reaction of a known macrolide antibiotic as leucomycin A5, or gosamycin or its 18-hydro-18-sulfonate derivative with an alkali metal cyanide as KCN or NaCN is carried out in a solvent as water or methanol in the presence of an acid at room temperature and the product is separated and purified to produce the objective compound.
