NEW MATERIAL:A 2-substituted imidazolin-4-one compound expressed by formula I (R is cyclohexyl, phenyl or phridyl) or an acid addition salt thereof.
EXAMPLE: 2-(2-Cyclohexyl-2-phenylethyl)imidazolin-4-one.
USE: Useful as a hypoglycemic agent and an oral drug for diabetes.
PROCESS: An imino ether expressed by formula IV (R' is lower alkyl) is mixed with methyl or ethyl ester of glycine, and the mixture is then reacted at room temperature to under heating at about 150°C if desired to give the compound expressed by formula I. The raw material compound expressed by formula IV is obtained by reacting a compound expressed by formula II with hydrogen chloride in a lower alcohol, e.g. methanol or ethanol, or reacting a compound expressed by formula III with a Meerwein reagent by the conventional method.
