NEW MATERIAL: Trans-2,2-dimethylchroman-3-ol derivatives expressed by the formula I, in which A represents a group of the formula II [E denotes N or C(R4) (R4 is H, methyl or OH)] or a group of the formula III (each of R1-R3 denotes H or methyl with the proviso that one of them denotes methyl), Z represents halogen, cyano, acetyl, trifluoroacetyl, nitro, alkylthio, carboxyl, phosphono, dialkoxyphosphoryl or alkoxycarbonyl with the proviso that alkylthio and alkoxy have 1-3C atoms, their pharmaceutically allowable salts containing phosphono or carboxyl groups.
EXAMPLE: Trans-6-cyano-4-(1,2-dihydro-2-oxypyridine-1-yl)-2,2-dimethylchroman-3- ol.
USE: Antiarrythmic agents and antihypertensive agents.
PREPARATION: A compd. of the formula IV (Z' represents Z other than carboxyl and phosphone) is allowed to react with a compd. of the formula V to obtain a compd. of the formula I.
