Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a novel compound useful as an intermediate for brighteners, plant protecting agents, drugs, industrial products and fluorescent brighteners.
CONSTITUTION: There is provided a compound of formula I (wherein R1-R5 are each H, 1-12C alkyl, F, Cl, Br, OH, CN, CHO, -O-(1-8C alkyl), -OCO-phenyl, CF3 or the like; X, Y and Z are each halogen), e.g. 2,4-dichloro-5-fluorostilbene. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting compound of formula II [wherein W is I, Br, Cl or N2A (wherein A is an anion of an acid having a pKa of less than 7)] with a compound of formula III optionally in a solvent and in the presence of a catalytic amount of a palladium catalyst, and further optionally in the presence of a base and/or a stabilizing ligand and the like.
